History
Universita Iuav di Venezia was founded in December 1926 as the Scuola Superiore di Architettura di Venezia, on the initiative of Giovanni Bordiga -- officially described by IUAV as Italy's second architecture school, after Rome's. It gained full university status and its current name around 2000-2002. 2026 marks its centenary.

Educational characteristics
Design education
Every year is anchored by a "Laboratorio d'anno" (year studio) plus at least one dedicated intensive design workshop. The signature format is "Wave" -- three weeks of intensive design work under internationally renowned architects, closing in a public exhibition, described by IUAV itself as the central, most-loved experience of the programme.
Technical education
Present from Year 1 (seismic-risk structural design, construction elements, applied geology) through Year 2 (structural mechanics) -- integrated rather than segregated into a separate engineering track.
Historical & cultural education
Restoration appears twice -- 'Fondamenti di restauro' (Y1) and a dedicated 'Laboratorio di restauro e rilievo e modellazione digitale' (Y3, combining restoration with surveying and digital modelling).
